Politics of Trust Network : Internet

An initiative of the John Vasconcellos Legacy Project, PTN launched in August 2004 as California's newest on-line civic navigator – a nonpartisan informational resource and “political router” aimed at linking Californians to a broad range of civic engagement activities. PTN’s primary objective is to dramatically increase political participation through faster and broader sharing of information, by fostering social ingenuity, and enhancing pathways for progressive activism.

Recommendations and Components

SightDesign was approached with the task of creating a fully functioning member-driven web site. Members take advantage of several features that promote advocacy and activity. A Digital Library allows members to browse, save, and post articles. Community and Forums features bring members together and promote contact with affiliate organizations. An events system lets members find various events and manage their own calendar.

1. SightDesign worked closely with PTN to create a very approachable and friendly design for the new site
2. Member features include: Digital Library, Event Calendar, Advocacy Calendar, Network Café, and Discussion Forums
3. Articles and events may be posted for review and inclusion at the site and includes a WYSIWYG editor
4. An ecommerce system allows administrators to manage a “Trust Shop” catalog
5. A suite of private administrative tool allows specific users to manage member accounts, post features content, and maintain the ecommerce catalog
6. Creation of an online identity
